In a world of fake news, exploring ways to identify, tell, or manipulate the truth is more critical than ever. This investigation sought to analyze data as a trusted form of media to create an alternate truth: that unicorns are not only real but endangered.
I took inspiration from a trip my husband + I took with our then five-year-old daughter to a local farm that holds an annual unicorn festival. From this idea, I designed a brochure for a fictitious unicorn ranch seeking donations. I wrote stories about each of the unicorns at the rescue + created fictitious data, visually presenting it in the brochure. This helped to build the narrative that unicorns are real through perception + context.
I created a color palette that feels mystical, calming, + creative, using purple as my primary color because the local farm has beautiful lavender fields. I chose the whimsical typeface Lady Rene for its contextual + stylistic alternates, swash characters, + ligatures.
